Extended Learning at Colbert Elementary Museum Magnet
As we prepare to welcome students back to class on August 4th, please note that our school hours are changing. For the 2014/15 school year, our new school hours for students in K-5 are: 7:50AM to 2:50 PM. Students in our HS program will still be dismissed at 1:50 PM.
The new schedule extends the regular school day by one hour, during which students will receive additional intensive reading instruction and enrichment. The extension of instructional time beyond the normal school day is required by Florida law based on the results of the Reading portion of the 2014 FCAT 2.0.
Please note, students who will enter grades four (4) or five (5) in the 2014/15 school year and who scored a Level 5 on the Reading portion of the FCAT 2.0 in 2014, may “opt out” of the extended instructional learning time. Parents can contact Mrs. Yackel regarding this choice.

CLASS SIZE REDUCTION 2014-2015
Due to the State Class Size Reduction law, students may need to be moved between teachers after the start of school to ensure compliance with the required student limits. These limits are 18 students for Pre-Kindergarten to grade 3; 22 students for grades 4 to 8; and 25 students for grades 9 to 12 in core classes. Please know that students’ needs, will continue to be met through proper instruction and services.
